Building on the highly successful NSW DPI Fish Friendly Farms (FFF) program, Fish Friendly Farms (Tweed) focusses on a single catchment. Working with Tweed Shire Council, the project is designed to improve landholders’ understanding of the benefits of healthy aquatic habitat. Landholders along the Cobaki, Piggabeen, Duroby and Bilambil Creeks were invited to express their interest in making their property a Fish Friendly ‘Demonstration Farm’. A ‘demonstration farm’ is one where a variety of on-ground river rehabilitation techniques or management practices that benefit property management, riverine ecosystem health and water quality have been implemented. On-ground works included revegetation, fencing, weed control and erosion prevention at numerous properties, leading to river bank rehabilitation.
