Mangrove forests are vital for the sustainability of the recreational fishery providing shelter and habitat for many saltwater and estuarine fish. Mangrove forest in the Manning River Estuary are being impacted by livestock access. Exclusion of livestock to 5km of Manning River Estuary mangrove forest was achieved through the erection of permanent fencing with up to a 50m corridor width. These works will encourage the regeneration of degraded mangrove forest. Completed in 2010.
