Pressure from tourism, agriculture, stormwater and discharges from sewage treatment plants have reduced water quality and fish habitat within the Cape Byron Marine Park and Brunswick River, Brunswick River Catchment on Station Street Mullumbimby. Livestock access to the riparian zone was controlled through the installation of 1 km of fencing to protect mangrove, saltmarsh and remnant floodplain rainforest. Completed in 2011.
